Cool down on of the best beaches near London
1. Whitstable, Kent
Probably our top pick, as it combines a gorgeous village with wild and calming beaches.

Here, you can enjoy some of the most stunning sunsets. You can get fish and chips or Whitstable's famous oysters with a glass of bubbly or have a stroll by its pastel-painted shop fronts and enjoy its thriving arts scene.
2. Isle of Grain, Kent
If you're looking for proximity, this is said to be one of the nearest beaches to London. This shore on the Hoo Peninsula is surprisingly close, but you'll feel like entering another world. If you want to escape the chaos and crowds, this is your choice. Located on the confluence of the rivers Medway and Thames, you'll be surrounded by leafy woodland and colourful wildflowers.
3. West Dunes, Camber Sands
This sandy beach is some of the most loved UK spots - for all the good reasons. Camber Sands is a grand beach with thin sand and cinematic dunes.

If you happen to head there on a busy day, walk towards the western side for more secluded spots. There are some great places to eat, so consider it a gourmand destination as well.
4. Sunny Sands, Folkestone
Sunny Sands Beach is a famous sandy beach located close to a lovely centre of town and next to Folkestone Harbour. It's regarded as one of the best beaches in the country for building sandcastles: there's an annual sandcastle building competition! The clue's in the name: it's sandy, and an exciting destination for Summer.
5. Dungeness, Kent
This tiny fishing town is at the southernmost point of Kent: close enough to London for a day trip, but you'll still immerse yourself in a mesmerising wild landscape. Its sharp, unique beauty comes from its wood cabins, abandoned fishing boats, and abundant wildlife. You can head on the top of the Old Lighthouse or visit the iconic coal-black Prospect Cottage, the former home of legendary film director Derek Jarman.
6. Brighton
Would it be a 'best beaches near to London' list, if we wouldn't mention the evergreen Brighton?

You can have a look at the UK's most eccentric palace, the Brighton Royal Pavilion. Whether you love hunting for cool vintage clothes, having a drink by the beach or enjoying some live music, you won't be surprised to know that this is considered London by the sea!
The UK's weather is always unpredictable, so when we're surprised by a heatwave or some sunny hours, we can make the most out of it and head to some lovely beach time.
