Where to watch the
1 million people lined the route between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abby for the 2012 Royal Wedding of Wills and Kate and this Saturday 60,000 people are expected to travel to Windsor for a glimpse of Prince Harry and Megan Markle on their big day. If you want to beat the crowds but still celebrate in style, we've rounded up the best street parties and festivities across the UK.
If you’re in London this weekend there are several ticketed events on the agenda, including a royal affair at The Bluebird on Kings road offering a live screening, BBQ and Champagne reception. ONE Marylebone is hosting a day of wedding related entertainment including the big screen event. If you’re looking to chance it on the day though, your best bets are the free screenings at The Village Hall, Battersea Power Station and National Maritime Museum, Greenwich – expect fancy dress and bunting in abundance.
If you’re in Wales you’d be advised to head to the South East, as the majority of street parties have been planned here, with seven in Rhondda Cynon Taf. For the dedicated royalists though, head to Anglesey’s only street party. The groom’s brother, Prince William served as a search and rescue pilot in the RAF here.
There’s only one official street party in Scotland for the Royal Wedding – Reidhaven Street in Elgin. It’s been dubbed the ‘after-party’ as it’s been held the day after the wedding on Sunday 20th May.
Head to the City Social hidden market in the Suffolk Street Queensway underpass to watch the Royal Wedding on the big screen from noon on Saturday.
A live screening of the wedding will be shown on a big screen in the nave of Winchester Cathedral. Food, drink and family entertainment will follow.
For those wanting to really indulge in the wedding festivities, Ashton court is the place to be. Dress up in your wedding guest finery and watch the nuptials unfold from the mansion’s very own music room.
If you’re torn between watching the Royal Wedding and catching the FA Cup final, Ethrow Park Café has got you covered. They’ll be showing coverage of both events throughout the day while serving up BBQ grub and activities to boot.
For an alternative celebration, head to Margate’s Dreamland for live streaming of the wedding and the FA Cup final. Expect a giant bouncy castle church, prizes to be won and if your name is Harry or Megan free entry and an unlimited ride wristband!
If you are heading out to enjoy the festivities, make sure you're ready whatever the weather. Shop Parka London's range of water-resistant and light weight coats for men and women now. Our Hamilton and Ellison bags are perfect for picnic packing too!
Alternatively, if you want to enjoy the day from the comfort of your own home, BBC, ITV and Sky News will be covering all the action from 9am on Saturday.
Happy Wedding Day to all!
