From the runway to city streets, the puffer is in! The iconic coat is always an essential in our winter wardrobe as a perfect go to when the temperatures really take a deep dip south.. We don’t believe in reinventing the wheel, so we haven’t! Our designers have re-imagined the puffer coat into two timeless and modern paired back silhouettes perfect to wear and style over any look.
Puffer Coat, An Icon
Not many items in fashion have been seen in as many different styles and forms as the iconic puffer coat. Its function and practicality is rooted in its humble discovery. Eddie Bauer created the puffer jacket after nearly losing his life to hypothermia during a fishing trip, where his wool coat became saturated in water and turned to ice! He then came up with the innovative idea of quilting the material to prevent the filling from falling down, resulting in a lightweight jacket made for survival.
Since its discovery in 1936, the iconic puffer has hit the runway and stores in many different styles and forms as designers attempt to put their own spin on it. Some of our favourites include the classic Tommy Hilfiger 90s puffer that was seen on the backs of most hip-hop artists in New York City and Raf Simon’s exaggerated long puffer from his 2016 Fall collection.
We’re loving the styling of this red cropped puffer by Tommy Hilfiger and the bold lines in the Vetements Spring 2017 collaboration with Canada Goose. With our tagline, ‘an icon reimagined’, we are bringing this iconic winter staple to our AW 17 collection with a contemporary approach to create easy wearing, timeless classics that you can rely on in the unpredictable British weather.
